Islamabad, Oct 16: Pakistan’s First ‘Sustainability Summit & Awards’ Set for October 24 Pioneering Event for Green Initiatives and Corporate Responsibility. The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.
Nustainable (the NUST office of sustainability), and Devcom-Pakistan (Development Communications Network) have teamed up to host the first-ever “Pakistan Sustainability Summit and Awards” in honor of World Sustainability Day. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 24.
Addressing Pakistan’s growing environmental issues and advancing sustainable development are the goals of the summit. According to a press release, it is being planned to popularize World Sustainability Day, which is observed on October 26 worldwide but is not as well-known in Pakistan.
The need to address sustainability is urgent, according to Munir Ahmed, Executive Director of Devcom-Pakistan: “Despite growing environmental challenges like climate change, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss, sustainability practices are less understood and frequently compromised in Pakistan.” Our current economic catastrophes necessitate a swift shift to sustainable growth.
He added that the summit’s goal is to convene important players to discuss how to advance environmentally friendly behaviors and create a resilient, sustainable Pakistan. The summit will provide a forum for promoting cooperation between government organizations, businesses, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, and other important players.
It will support social justice, economic expansion, environmental preservation, and resource management. Promoting sustainable development, fostering innovation and knowledge exchange, fostering public-private partnerships, increasing environmental awareness, showcasing green business prospects, and promoting best practices in sustainability are all goals of Pakistan’s flagship sustainability event.
A concluding ceremony and prize distribution will take place after the summit’s technical sessions on subjects like “People’s Wellbeing,” “Thriving Economy,” and “Healthy Planet. “Environmental advocates, activists, and conservation-focused organizations, academics and researchers, representatives from international organizations dedicated to sustainable development.
Young innovators and green startups contributing to sustainable solutions, government officials and key decision-makers from national and provincial government departments, diplomats, and representatives of the private sector, including CEOs, sustainability officers, and industry representatives, will all be involved in the summit.
Policy proposals, pledges to sustainable corporate practices, new public-private collaborations, heightened environmental awareness, the display of green technologies and business opportunities, and sustainability awards to recognize accomplishments are all anticipated outcomes of the summit.
The “Leaders in Sustainability Awards,” which will be given to company and development sector organizations in ten categories, are another significant aspect of the event. These include the Climate Action Award, which recognizes efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Biodiversity Conservation Award, which honors efforts to protect ecosystems and wildlife, the Nature Based Solutions, Sustainable Water Management Award, which recognizes innovative approaches to water conservation and management, and the Renewable Energy Excellence Award.
