Islamabad, Oct 14: PTA Launches Third Phase of SIM Blocking Operation. The third phase of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) campaign against the unauthorized usage of SIM cards for mobile phones is now underway.
According to PTA insiders who spoke to media, all SIM Blocking issued in the names of deceased people would now be permanently closed or blocked. If not moved by October 15, all SIMs registered in the names of departed people will be blocked.
To finish the procedure, the regulator has advised transferring ownership of these SIMs by providing a legitimate death certificate. The transfer also requires the original SIM, proof of the current SIM, and evidence of a relationship with the deceased.
PTA authorities claim that SIMs provided on ID cards that expired before 2017 have already been deleted. To date, some 70,000 SIMs that were registered using canceled or phony ID cards have also been disabled.
In this operation the PTA has provided specific instructions to the users the form has offered them encouragement to ensure their SIM registrations through the PTA’s website. Customers are advised to check their SIMs status of compliance so that they do not find themselves disconnected.
The measures being employed by PTA are part of a large concept to enhance security and minimize and curbing of the use of mobile gadgets in unlawful activities. Those affected and locked out by their SIMs due to non-registration are encouraged to register in order to unblock their services.
