Islamabad, Oct 16: UNICEF Partners with Haleon Pakistan to Boost Maternal Health Through ‘Mothers Matter’ Initiative. Maternal mortality is a serious public health issue that Pakistan has faced throughout its history. An alarming number of women die each year from pregnancy and childbirth-related complications: about 8,300.
Sepsis, hypertensive disorders, and postpartum hemorrhage are the leading causes of mother deaths. Pregnant women also frequently suffer from nutritional deficits. Similar to this, service delivery needs to be improved through the training of community-based Lady Health Workers and facility-level healthcare professionals. High rates of stillbirths and neonatal mortality have been caused by poor mother health.
Leading consumer healthcare provider Haleon Pakistan is meeting this need by giving UNICEF Pakistan a two-year grant to help UNICEF’s efforts to improve maternal health in underserved communities and places around the nation.
Pregnant women are educated about their well-being, and the healthcare system and healthcare providers’ competencies are strengthened by increasing the capacity of healthcare providers and training Lady Health Workers in local communities.
In order to increase awareness and understanding of maternal and neonatal health in the Punjab province, UNICEF uses a multifaceted approach and engages policy makers, leading health experts, managers, and broadcast media. This helps to promote social and behavioral change at the national level.
Haleon Pakistan aims to help make a long-lasting impact on the lives of women and children in Pakistan by assisting UNICEF Pakistan in tackling the underlying causes of maternal mortality and prioritizing maternal health.
