Islamabad, Oct 15: Unpaid Bills Leave Pakistan Hockey Federation in Financial Crisis. As its financial difficulties persisted, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) reportedly resorted to diesel generators to temporarily restore energy in its headquarters. After the Punjab Sports Board cut off the federation’s electricity supply due to unpaid bills, all of the lights and fans at the National Hockey Stadium in Lahore are reportedly powered on an as-needed basis.
PHF has already blamed former secretary Haider Hussain for this disaster, claiming that his poor handling of things caused debts to accumulate to an unpayable total of about 70 million PKR for the frequently financially stressed governing body.
Pakistan Hockey has frequently failed to give its own players enough financial support and recently lost its former coach Siegfried Aikman due to the same problem. This financial crisis is a result of limited government funding and a lack of sponsorship support, which has crippled the federation’s ability to support its national teams, infrastructure, and development programs.
The PHF’s growing debt and mismanagement issues have also raised concerns about the future of Pakistan’s hockey programs. These financial woes could significantly impact Pakistan’s performance on the international stage, as it struggles to provide proper facilities and training for its athletes.
The hockey federation is now calling for immediate intervention from the government and private sponsors to help stabilize its operations and restore the glory of Pakistan hockey.
