Islamabad, Oct 15: Freelancing Centers in GB Government to Launch 14 Centers and Upgrade 3 Software Technology Parks

Two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed by the Gilgit-Baltistan School and Education Department, Pakistan Software Export Board, and Special Communications Organization to enhance the region’s IT infrastructure and freelance prospects. The purpose of these agreements is to establish Gilgit-Baltistan as a center for innovation, digital education, and freelance IT work.

The first Memorandum of Understanding describes a collaboration between Gilgit-Baltistan’s IT Department and PSEB to create Software Technology Hubs in Diamer, Ghizer, and Nagar. With PSEB supplying the technological know-how required to propel development in the area, these hubs will function as important hubs for innovation.

The second Memorandum of understanding (MoU) focuses on establishing 14 IT centers in schools around the region and involves SCO, the IT Department, and the Gilgit-Baltistan Education Department. These centers will be vital in helping students become more digitally literate and equip them with necessary IT skills.

Key officials including Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Abrar Ahmed Mirza, Sector Commander SCO Colonel Faheem, Secretary IT Riaz Ahmed, Secretary Education Akhtar Hussain Rizvi, and IT Advisor Suraiya Zaman attended the signing event.

IT Advisor Suraiya Zaman stressed in her speech the significance of these collaborations in providing local youth with training and professional development, as well as the government’s commitment to turning Gilgit-Baltistan into an IT hub.

Spokesman for the Gilgit-Baltistan government Faiz Ullah Faraq says these efforts are an important milestone in the region’s path to economic expansion and digital transformation.

During the second shift, the Freelancing Centers in GB will make use of the IT laboratories set up in 14 schools around Gilgit-Baltistan. This will increase the number of possibilities for young people to work as freelancers and strengthen the region’s IT capabilities.
