Islamabad, Oct 19: Bobby Curtis Title Pakistan’s Young Tennis Star Wins Prestigious Championship
Mikaeel Ali Baig, a rising tennis star from Pakistan, won the Bobby Curtis U16 Doubles Championship at the US Tennis Association Headquarters in Orlando, showcasing his extraordinary talent once again.
His recent victory at the Bobby Curtis Title U14 Singles Championship highlights his quick rise in the sport, and this one adds to his growing list of accomplishments.
Legends like Chris Evert, Jennifer Capriati, Jim Courier, and Andy Roddick are among the notable tennis players that have won the coveted Bobby Curtis Championship. The tournament’s effect on players’ careers is well recognized on a global scale.
Mikaeel and Rafa, his doubles partner, defeated the top-seeded duo in an exciting final. They lost the opening set 4-6, but they showed incredible resiliency to win the second set 6-2 and secure the championship with a thrilling 10-8 triumph in the third-set tiebreak.
Alongside Delaney, Mikaeel Ali Baig participated in the mixed doubles competition. They went into the first round as favorites and breezed through the opening stages. Nevertheless, hurricane-like conditions forced a change in venue, from outdoor clay courts to indoor fast hard courts, throughout the competition.
Mikaeel stated, “The conditions were tough due to hurricane-like weather,” as he thought back on the difficult circumstances. On the first two days, we played outside on clay courts; but, on the third day, we were transferred inside to play on fast hard courts.
“I set a goal last year to win Bobby Curtis and trained my body, mind, and technique to do my best,” he said, emphasizing the value of planning, composure, and intense training. It helps me remain composed under pressure to concentrate on the preparation and procedure rather than the result.
